Clean the equal coupling with a rag and household detergent to remove any dirt, oil or grease. Create light abrasions over and around the surface of the crack or hole, by rubbing the sandpaper or moving the brush over the equal coupling's surface. Brush off any plastic fragments on the coupling.
Cut of an adequate amount of putty from the epoxy bar (some putty kits have two separate colored bars; if this is the case, cut an equal amount from each bar). Roll the putty in your hands until it become one single color with no color streaks visible. This may take up to five minutes.
Pack the putty onto the equal coupling's surface, both over and within at least 1/2 inch of the crack or hole. Wet your fingertips and smooth out the putty, decreasing its thickness where it meets the coupling surface. Wash your hands in hot soapy water immediately afterward.
